KAD is a network of artists, curators and cultural operators. Thanks to a program of promotion, mobility and curating contemporary art, it creates an integrated cultural offer, generates economies of scale, enhancing logistical and organizational aspects, involving and supporting cultural operators, the local and international artistic production and research spaces within an exchange of assets, research, knowledge and best practices. The association set up in the Kalsa district of Palermo which was the headquarters of Manifesta 12 activities.
KAD carries out an integrated communication of contemporary art spaces and events present at Kalsa. KAD organizes visual projects, performances and multimedia art, talks, audiovisual productions, workshops, studio visits, art residencies, summer schools, talks, editorials, cultural exchange platforms, educational programs, publishing projects and festivals through design and cultural promotion, sponsorship and partnerships, for national, European and international funds.
The vision of the project is to transform the entire area of Kalsa / Tribunali into a great artistic production platform. The southern and mediterranean nature of the network is at the same time the content of the project action and a north-south and east-west meeting tool for the operators and the public involved.
KAD is a project developed starting from the events organised in 2018 (Manifesta 12, Palermo Capitale Italiana della Cultura), guaranteeing an idea of continuity and development, responding to the demands of the territory on international programs of production, promotion and cultural mobility. KAD responds to the need of the socio-cultural and urban context of the historical center of an organic and systemic vision of the tangible and intangible assets of the Kalsa / Tribunali area, which integrates actions and resources in a long-term vision and in particular in exhibitions and in the educational sector through productions, workshops and talks by artists and curators.
Kalsa Art District is a map of spaces for the promotion and production of contemporary art with a program of production, organization and partnership teams consisting of: Dimora OZ, KaOZ, Eglise, Veniero Project Space, Rizzuto Gallery, PUSH, Marina di Libri / Consorzio Piazza Marina and dintorni, Artedia Mediterranea, MeNO.
